Debra Redcliffe
Debra
has been practising yoga for 5 years and teaching for 3. She practises
and studies hatha/ashtanga vinyasa yoga where she blends some of the
ashtanga sequences into her dynamic hatha yoga classes when teaching.
She has just completed her teachers diploma with the British Wheel of
Yoga where her mentor was Swami ‘prema’ Bennett.Although Debra has a committment to practising her Ashtanga with her own teacher she feels yoga should reach out to all on many levels and choses to teach a variety of yoga classes to suit different needs from gentle flowing yoga and relax ,to baby yoga, -‘ashtanga style ‘and dynamic flowing hatha for the more adept. In all she feels the flow of the breath is the key and believes that a strong asana practise needs good breath and meditation for balance.
Debra enjoyed recently doing a workshop with David Swenson and is planning to go to Mysore , India at the end of the year to study with Patabois Jois whom she met last year and his Grandson Sharath at their school there. She is also inflenced by the work of Shivea Rea. In the meantime she is very happy to graduate as a BWY teacher and is about to study and train in Laughter yoga by Dr Mataria kirtan!! Should be a hoot!...This should provide Debra with the opportunity to link her acting skills with yoga and a way of her giving back,:- for yoga truly lifted her life and saved her from depression and an insecure life as an actor giving her back her faith and purpose in life.....

Tuesdays - Dynamic Flowing Hatha Yoga (Intermediate)
This is a strong asana based class linking ‘uyyayi’ breath with flowing dynamic sequences, sometimes using elements from the Ashtanga system to increase stamina, strength and flexibility for an all round creative session. Debbie will sometimes have peak postures where we stop the flowand workshop them through for a better understanding. The class also introduces short pranayama/ meditation techniques to balane out the asana and tries to bring in spiritual philosophy where appropriate/possible- Not suitable for people with serious health conditions. For the yogi who wants a deeper all round practise
Fridays - Yoga Boost (Intermediate)
This class is very similar to the dynamic hatha yoga session used as an energy boost for weekend ahead. Again , using flowing sequences in a creative way and exploring different ways of moving in and out of postures. The difference is that it is a slightly longer class so there is time to introduce 10/15 minutes of different pranayama/mediation techniques each week to focus and work towards stilling the mind. Sounds serious? No the one thing Debbie can always guaranteed is a laugh in her classes!!
